About the author

MedMaster was founded in 1979 by Stephen Goldberg MD, after his first book, Clinical Neuroanatomy Made Ridiculously Simple, was rejected by multiple publishers for making a serious topic funny and being too brief. It subsequently became a best seller, having sold over 400,000 copies. Dr. Goldberg, a graduate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, trained in Neurology, Ophthalmology and Family Medicine. He has taught medical students and residents for 25 years at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where he is Professor Emeritus. He received the George Paff Award for Most Outstanding Professor eleven times. He was invited, in view of his contributions to medical education, to give the keynote address to the medical school graduating class at the Washington University at St. Louis School of Medicine in 2004. Dr.Goldberg has joined with a number of qualified authors of like mind to write other MedMaster titles, which are regularly updated.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2024Breaks the complex subject down into fun and easy to understand ways. Useful, very memorable diagrams and mnemonic devices.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2011When studying for my specialist in neurologic PT exam, this was the go-to resource for my study group and me. The writing and drawings are SO CLEAR on certain points that aren't well-explained in other textbooks. And because it's so concise, it's simple to carry around and reference quickly when you're studying. Like a previous reviewer said, it's not what you read that matters, it's what you remember. This book is great at helping solidify key points in your memory. I've since loaned it to 4 friends taking the exam and it's everyone's favorite neuro study guide!!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2006The book, in general, is excellent. It takes a very complex subject and tries to make it easier to understand. The addition of the CD for practice is very helpful indeed.
I would like nevertheless to say that the book is practically the same as in previous editions, up to page 83. Perhaps the addition of certain details would have been even better. For example:
In the Willis' circle to explain what happens in anterior communicating artery defects, in defects of the posterior circle. Mention the "arteries of stroke."
Please, do not misunderstand me. I am only making a suggestion. I have a great respect for professor Goldberg.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2013The premise of this study guide is if you make silly or ridiculous connections the anatomy you need to know is easier to remember. It is very helpful and I find the facts are staying in my memory much easier. A great way to prepare for exams, or remember the anatomy that isn't staying in your brain.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2018l learned Neuroanatomy with this book and anytime I feel like I need to brush up on the basics, I re-read this book and it's great. It's a fun read and makes learning neuroanatomy way more fun and accessible than your textbook. Haven't used the interactive CD because their are apps with the same tools, but what a great addition.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2008This book really did make the lecture material SUPER manageable. I agree with other raters' comments: this book is not going to teach it all and is not something to just sit and read, BUT used in conjunction with a course, it may be the only supplement you need (it was for most of my class). It is full of hints on memorization and logic and is a must have. I am getting ready to start my neuro rotation and it is going to be reviewed before-hand and will come with me.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2006I do have a science background, but nothing specifically in neuroanatomy. The book cover and title seem to indicate that this book should be entertaining and "easy" to read. This book is not a cartoon book designed to stimulate memory and is definitely not simple or basic. I am sorry to say this but the line drawings are not the greatest quality. I think it is targeted to med students or doctors who need a very compact clinical symptom reference or a quick refresher but know neuroanatomy. Keep searching if you need an true introduction to neuroanatomy.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2013Great little book! I bought this for my neuro class and it was a big help not only for may tests but also as a good base to expand on for my step 1 exam. It is easy to read its only 100 pages long so you can read it in a snap, and the information is clear and to the point with good explanations and easy to understand graphics. I recommend it to all med and science students.

5.0 out of 5 stars Neuroanatomy class can be overwhelming. This book can help.
This short reference book was recommended by a friend, and I'm so glad I decided to buy it. Neuroanatomy is by no means an easy subject, but this book helped ease the stress level throughout the semester and get through the final exam in one piece.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners
Great for learning basic anatomy in an easy way. Lots of pictures and mnemonics to help. Not a must-have, but makes life ridiculously simple, and memorable!
