The State Board of Physical Therapy regulates the practice of physical therapy in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is the Board’s duty to pass upon the qualifications of applicants for licensure as physical therapists and registration as physical therapist assistants. Among its other functions, the Board issues, renews, suspends and revokes licenses and registrations.
PT & PTA licenses expire December 31 of every even-numbered year.
PTs: During each biennial renewal period, a Physical Therapist licensee shall complete qualifying continuing education equal to at least 30 hours of continuing physical therapy education, including at least 2 hours in law or ethics applicable to the practice of physical therapy, and at least 2 hours in child abuse recognition and reporting.
PTAs: During each biennial renewal period, a certified Physical Therapist Assistant shall complete qualifying continuing education equal to at least 30 hours of continuing physical therapy education, including at least 4 hours in identifying and responding to emergency health conditions, at least 2 hours in law or ethics applicable to the practice of physical therapy and at least 2 hours in child abuse recognition and reporting.
NOTE: CE is NOT required for the first renewal of a license/certificate.
