About the Course

This article reviews the mechanisms that may underlie alcohol and tobacco dependence. Both drugs have been suggested to have anxiety-reducing and antidepressant effects that may influence use. Impulsivity and sensation seeking may also influence a person’s initial explorations with both substances.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Behavioral Mechanisms Underlying the Link Between Smoking and Drinking created by Hilary J. Little, Ph.D.
