About the Course

This course is recommended for health care professionals, especially psychologists, counselors, social workers, and nurses who seek knowledge about children’s behavior problems and intervention strategies. Whether unfamiliar or familiar with some of the concepts involved in this material, you can benefit from information in this course.
A growing body of evidence supports the cost-effective contention that parents can be trained to participate in resolving their children’s behavior problems by applying individualized techniques based on learning principles. Drs. Schaefer and Eisen, experienced proponents of the process, have selected practical articles from the professional literature to help therapists help parents cope with common problems such as: nightmares, separation anxiety, disruptive behaviors, habit disorders (thumbsucking, bedwetting), dawdling, sibling rivalry, and noncompliance.

This course is based on the book, Helping Parents Solve Their Children’s Behavior Problems created by Charles E. Schaefer, Ph.D. and Andrew R. Eisen, Ph.D.

Charles E. Schaefer, Ph.D. and Andrew R. Eisen, Ph.D.

Dr. Schaefer is Professor of Psychology at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey. He is co-founder and Director Emeritus of the Association for Play Therapy, and founder and co-director of the Play Therapy Training Institute in New Jersey. Dr. Schaefer is the author/editor of over 50 books on play therapy and effective parenting, and has published 100 research articles. He is the co-ordinator of an International Play Therapy Study Group that meets each year in Wroxton, England. Dr. Schaefer maintains a private practice in Teaneck, New Jersey. Dr. Eisen directs the Child Anxiety Disorders Clinic at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey.
