The prevalence of mood disorders is not constant throughout the human life span. In fact the types of depression that occur early in life are likely to be different than those that occur later in life, when cormorbid illnesses can play a significant role in psychological well-being. The influence of puberty, pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause also has a marked influence on the occurrence of mood disorders.
