Based on the combined experience and knowledge of six experts who teach and consult on ethics and risk management strategies and principles, the book introduces a new model that takes the reader beyond the outdated “cook book” or “one size fits all” approach to risk management. It introduces an innovative approach to assess and manage risk; an approach that takes into account the clinician’s skills, training, and expertise rather than focusing solely on external factors, many of which may be ambiguous or beyond the practitioner’s control.

Bruce E. Bennett, Ph.D.
Dr. Bennett, the Chief Executive Officer of the APA Insurance Trust, has served on the APA Council of Representatives and is a former member of the APA Board of Directors. His areas of expertise include professional liability and risk management, marketing and promotion of psychological services, and ethics.
Patricia M. Bricklin, Ph.D.
Dr. Bricklin is a Professor at Widener University and partner in Bricklin Associates, an independent psychological practice. She focuses on ethics, legal and regulatory issues in professional practice and conducts classes, workshops and writes articles and books.
Eric Harris, J.D., Ed.D.
Dr. Harris, a licensed psychologist and attorney, is a Risk Management Consultant for the APA Insurance Trust, and the legal counsel to the Massachusetts Psychological Association. He has written, consulted and lectured extensively on risk management, legal issues and on managed care.
Samuel Knapp, Ed.D.
Dr. Knapp has been the Director of Professional Affairs for the Pennsylvania Psychological Associate since 1986. His major interest include legal and ethical issues related to professional practice.
Leon VandeCreek, Ph. D.
Dr. VandeCreek is currently a professor with the School of Professional Psychology at Wright State University. He teaches doctoral courses in psychological assessment and ethics.
Jeffrey N. Younggren, Ph.D.
Dr. Younggren is a clinical and forensic psychologist. He served as a member and chair of the Ethics Committees of the California Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association.
This course is recommended for health care professionals, especially psychologists, counselors, social workers, and nurses who seek knowledge about assessing and managing risk in their professional practice. It is appropriate for all levels of participants' knowledge.
