About the Course

The Iraq War Clinician Guide was developed by members of the National Center for PTSD and the Department of Defense. It was developed specifically for clinicians and addresses the unique needs of veterans of the Iraq War. Appendices provide a range of reference materials.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Iraq War Clinician Guide: Appendix I: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in the Military Veteran created by Matthew J. Friedman, M.D., Ph.D.; Paula P. Schnurr, Ph.D.; Annmarie McDonagh-Coyle, M.D. in 2004.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  1. Discuss the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among military veterans and the psychiatric correlates associated with it.
  2. Identify risk and protective factors associated with PTSD among veterans.
  3. Describe the typical course of PTSD and its effects on special populations.
  4. Explain factors to be considered regarding prevention of and treatment for PTSD among military veterans.
