About the Course

Finding out a brother or sister has cancer is very difficult. The booklet upon which this course is based describes how other teens dealt with this tough time. It shows ways teens can help themselves and their families, provides information about cancer treatments, ways to learn how to cope, as well as where to go for more support.

This course is recommended for health care professionals, especially psychologists, counselors, social workers, and nurses who seek knowledge about helping teens when a sibling has cancer. It is appropriate for all levels of participants' knowledge.

Course Objectives:

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  1. Identify ways to help teens prepare for and cope with life stresses resulting from having a sibling with cancer.
  2. Be able to assist teens in their efforts to learn about cancer, how it is treated, and the professionals involved in the many aspects of care.
  3. Describe ways teens can be of assistance to a sibling who has cancer.
