About the Course

Definitions and Terms Relating to Co-Occurring Disorders (Overview Paper 1) provides definitions of terms associated with substance-related disorders, mental disorders, co-occurring disorders and programs. The purpose for which a definition is used and the context in which it is used will affect its meaning, dimensions, and precision. Thus, context and purpose should be made explicit in any policy, initiative, financing mechanism, or system in which a definition is used.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Definitions and Terms Relating to Co-Occurring Disorders (Overview Paper 1) created by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in 2007.
