This course elucidates the revised code of NAADAC ethics and what they mean for addiction-specific professionals with regard to direct care, confidentiality, cultural diversity, workplace issues, and supervision.

Keith Gibson, Ph.D.

Dr. Gibson is a Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years in research, clinical and consulting practice. He has also held leadership roles in research administration and program evaluation and more recently has specialized in program evaluation and system analysis. He draws upon his years of expertise as a practicing psychologist, administrator, researcher and technologist to help universities evaluate their programs to implement, meet, and maintain CACREP standards.

This course is recommended for health care professionals, especially addiction professionals, psychologists, counselors, social workers, and nurses who seek knowledge about addiction-focused ethics. It is appropriate for all levels of participants' knowledge.

Course Objectives:

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  1. Describe how the revised NAADAC Code of Ethics provides guidance for addiction professionals with regard to the counseling relationship, confidentiality, professional responisbilities and workplace standards.
  2. Identify and apply Code of Ethics Standards as they related to professional practice in a culturally diverse world, to assessment, evaluation, and interpretation, as well as to internet enabled practice including E-Therapy, E-Supervision, and Social Media.
  3. Identify and apply Code of Ethics Standards as they related to; supervision and consultation, the resolution of ethical concerns and to publications and communications.
