Dr. William J. Fremouw

William J. Fremouw, Ph.D., earned his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Massachusetts in 1974. He completed an internship at University of Rochester Medical School and joined the faculty of West Virginia University in 1975. Dr. Fremouw has been Chairman of the Department of Psychology, Director of Clinical Training, and is now the Director of the Quin Curtis Psychological Services Center. As a Full Professor, Dr. Fremouw teaches courses in Abnormal Psychology, Psychopathology, Legal Issues, Forensic Psychology and Ethical Issues. He has published over 80 research articles, chapters in books and professional periodicals on suicide, PTSD, and malingering. Dr. Fremouw is a Diplomate from American Board of Professional Psychology in Forensic Psychology. He is only one of 300 Diplomates in Forensic Psychology in the United States and only one of two in West Virginia. He has been qualified to testify in Federal, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio courts. He conducts forensic evaluations in the following areas:

Robert Musick, MSW

Mr. Musick is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and professional that has worked on diverse research and test construction projects with Dr. Fremouw, and is active in the community as an administrator.

Julia M. Strunk, MS

Ms. Strunk holds a Masters Degree and has worked with Dr. Fremouw and colleagues on diverse research and test construction projects.

Elizabeth A. Tyner, M.S.

Ms. Tyner, M.S. holds a Masters Degree and has worked with Dr. Fremouw and colleagues on diverse research and test construction projects.

This course is recommended for health care professionals, especially psychologists, counselors, social workers, and nurses who seek knowledge about test instruments; namely, suicide assessment. It is appropriate for an intermediate level of participants' knowledge.

Course Objectives:

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  1. Upon completion of this course participants will be able to differentiate low, medium, high, and extreme risk for suicide via the SAAP.
  2. Upon completion of this course participants will understand the rationale for using the SAAP and demonstrate competence of its use.
