One of the commonly cited barriers to mental health treatment for veterans is distrust. Concerns regarding career impact is frequently reported by veterans. The author of this article posits an additional, evolutionary basis for this mistrust.

Dr. Garcia is a clinical psychologist specializing in the treatment of combat-related post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He has published extensively on the treatment of PTSD in combat veterans, masculine psychology in the aftermath of war, the evolutionary roots of political partisanship, and the interplay between religious practice and psychopathology.

Dr. Henderson completed her PhD in clinical psychology at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda MD, and my internship at Wilford Hall Ambulatory Medical Center in San Antonio TX. She is am an integrative therapist who focuses on brief, positive, solutions-focused therapy and is experienced in treating a variety of mental health concerns-- depression, anxiety, stress, grief, trauma, parenting concerns, and more. She is currently practicing in Alaska.
