From Re-entry to Recovery - Peer Support for Transition to the Community

About the Course

In this presentation, Elissa Nulton and Christy DeFeo discuss how peer support contributes to reduced criminal justice recidivism and supports re-entry of people with behavioral health conditions. Examples of existing programs are described, and practical tips for integrating peer support for transition to the community are offered. Recovery to Practice (RTP) training helps behavioral health and general healthcare practitioners improve delivery of recovery-oriented services, supports, and treatment.

Elissa Nulton

Elissa Nulton is the Chief Operating Officer at Peerstar LLC℠, a community behavioral healthcare service working toward recovery and integration. Elissa has Worked in mental health field as Direct Care, Case Manager, VP of Operations and Manager of JCAHO Accredited Organizations for over 20 years. She has been actively involved in the development and oversight of the Forensic Peer Support Program at Peerstar, LLC.

Christy DeFeo

Christy DeFeo is the Director of Forensic Programs at Peerstar LLC℠, a community behavioral healthcare service working toward recovery and integration.

Anna Lynn Hollis, Ph.D.

Anna Hollis, Ph.D., NCSP, is a nationally certified school psychologist currently living near Detroit, Michigan. She is licensed as a psychologist in 2 states (Michigan and South Carolina) and certified as a school psychologist in in 5 states (South Carolina, Michigan, Vermont, Pennsylvania, and Maryland). She is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA); the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP); the Michigan Association of School Psychologists (MASP); and the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS). Dr. Hollis obtained her Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of South Carolina. Her professional interests include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); Positive Psychology; Trauma-Informed Practice; and Urban School Psychology.
