In this SAMHSA Recovery-To-Practice webinar, Paul Grant Ph.D. and Ellen Inverso Psy.D. discuss the development and utilization of Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy with the introduction of the “adaptive mode.”

Paul Grant, Ph.D.

Paul Grant, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Psychology in psychiatry at the Aaron T. Beck Psychopathology Research Center with the University of Pennsylvania. He is a primary developer of recovery-oriented cognitive therapy for individuals with persistent schizophrenia.

Ellen Inverso Psy.D.

Ellen Inverso Psy.D. is the Director of Clinical Training and Education at the Beck Recovery Training Network and is also a trainer and consultant to mental health care providers in recovery-oriented cognitive therapy.

Anna Lynn Hollis, Ph.D.

Anna Hollis, Ph.D., NCSP, is a nationally certified school psychologist currently living near Detroit, Michigan. She is licensed as a psychologist in 2 states (Michigan and South Carolina) and certified as a school psychologist in in 5 states (South Carolina, Michigan, Vermont, Pennsylvania, and Maryland). She is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA); the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP); the Michigan Association of School Psychologists (MASP); and the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS). Dr. Hollis obtained her Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of South Carolina. Her professional interests include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); Positive Psychology; Trauma-Informed Practice; and Urban School Psychology.

Course Objectives:

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  1. Discuss the background and basics of cognitive therapy and how it can be implemented in recovery-oriented treatment (Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy).
  2. Discuss Beck's Cognitive Triad and how it is related to beliefs, functioning, and recovery.
  3. Discuss the principles and procedures of Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy, the research presented about it, and how it can be utilized in treatment.
