Reviews of Motivational Interviewing

About the Course

The first article explores the meta-analysis of Motivational Interviewing (MI) efficacy was tested. This meta-analysis provides additional support for the technical hypothesis of MI efficacy; future research on the relational hypothesis should occur in the field rather than in the context of clinical trials. In the second article, a realist review is used. The purpose of this review was to understand how, for whom, and under what circumstances MI works for adolescent health behavior change, which will inform future implementation of this intervention. The third article aims to appraise and synthesize the review evidence for the effectiveness of Motivational Interviewing on the health behavior of adults in health and social care settings. These outcomes include reducing binge drinking, frequency and quantity of alcohol consumption, substance abuse in people with dependency or addiction, and increasing physical activity participation.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Reviews of Motivational Interviewing created by Molly Magill, PhD et al in 2018.
