About the Course

ACT Made Simple provides an engaging and entertaining primer, for both newcomers and experienced ACT therapists alike, to the ACT model. ACT focus on mindfulness, client values, and a commitment to change, ACT is proven-effective in treating depression, anxiety, stress, addictions, eating disorders, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder (BPD), and myriad other psychological issues. Readers will gain an in-depth understanding of ACT theory, as well as practical tips to immediately put into practice.

Russ Harris is the author of the international best-selling self-help book "The Happiness Trap" and internationally acclaimed ACT trainer. Since 2005, he has run over 600 workshops and has provided ACT training to over 30,000 health professionals. He has authored several additional texts and self-help books, and practices as a therapist and coach in Australia.

Elizabeth Mosco, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist in Reno, NV. She opened a private practice after 10 years of conducting home-based assessment and therapy with the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System. Dr. Mosco’s clinical interests include maternal mental health, older adults, and third wave cognitive behavioral therapies.

Course Objectives:

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  1. Identify the six core therapeutic processes of ACT.
  2. Identify the six core pathological processes of psychological rigidity.
  3. Distinguish between behavioral goals and other types of therapeutic goals.
  4. Summarize several exercises to use in the early sessions of ACT, including the choice point.
  5. Recognize several ACT techniques that may be beneficial for a variety of different client presentations.
  6. Discuss several barriers to implementing ACT techniques.
  7. Discuss several ways to create optimal therapeutic relationships when implementing ACT.
