Identifying factors that influence treatment outcomes of emerging integrated interventions for co-occurring Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance use disorder (SUD) is crucial to maximize Veterans’ health. Dyadic adjustment suffers among individuals with PTSD and SUD, and may be an important mechanism of change in treatment. This exploratory study examined the association between dyadic adjustment and treatment outcomes in individual integrated treatment for co-occurring PTSD and SUD.

Dr. Flanagan is an Assistant Professor in the Addiction Sciences Division of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She has published more than 20 articles in peer reviewed journals.

Dr. Fischer works at the Universität Heidelberg · Institute of Medical Psychology and has published more than 40 articles in peer reviewed journals.
Christal L. Badour, Ph.D.
Dr. Badour is the director of the Stress, Trauma and Recovery Research Collaborative (STARRC). . Dr. Badour's research focuses on understanding the development and maintenance of psychopathology following traumatic experiences. Much of this work involves examining the role of affective expression and regulation in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), with a particular emphasis on moral emotions such as disgust, shame, and guilt. Dr. Badour is also interested in identifying unique and shared processes underlying symptoms of PTSD and commonly comorbid concerns including substance abuse, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), sexual risk behavior, and sexual dysfunction. She has published more than 60 articles in peer reviewed journals.
Hana Kuc is a Licensed Mental Heath counselor and a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor who has been working in the field for 13 years. In that time she has worked as a counselor, therapist, educator and director. Hana has specialized in working with clients on medication assisted treatment, who are in recovery from opiates, and are also diagnosed with a mental health disorder.
