This course examines pain management and ways to reduce chances of the patient developing OUD by using other methods for treating pain. It includes: the scope of the problem of pain, opioid analgesics, non-opioid pharmacologic treatments, interventional pain therapies, non-pharmacologic treatments, differences in pain experiences and treatment effectiveness among sub-populations, and the intersection between pain and opioid use disorder.
This course is based on the article, Pain Management and the Intersection of Pain and Opioid Use Disorder created by the Committee on Pain Management and Regulatory Strategies to Address Prescription Opioid Abuse in 2017.
