About the Course

Past research has found that there are experiences of bereavement specific to the LGBT* community. The authors have reviewed available research on bereavement experiences of members of the LGBT* community and have created a model of bereavement that accounts for the interaction of self-disclosure/acceptance of an LGBT* identity and the impact of loss/bereavement. The proposed model may highlight some of the needs of bereaving members of the LGBT* communities for providers who work with members of these communities.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, The Bereavement Experiences of LGBT+ People Who Have Lost a Partner created by Katherine Bristowe et al in 2016.
