About the Course

This course provides a comprehensive overview of how solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) can be used as a treatment approach for working with clients managing various forms of trauma. Included is an overview of SFBT with its basic tenets and a description of the current research supporting SFBT as an evidence-based practice.

This course is based on the book, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy with Clients Managing Trauma created by Adam S. Froerer, Ph.D. et al. in 2018.

Adam S. Froerer, Ph.D.
Adam S. Froerer, PhD, LMFT, is the associate program director for the master’s of family therapy program and an associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Mercer University’s School of Medicine. Dr. Froerer is a solution-focused trainer with BRIEF International and a member of the Solution Focused Brief Therapy Association Research Committee.
Jacqui von Cziffra-Bergs, D. Ed.
Jacqui von Cziffra-Bergs, D.Ed Psych, M.Ed Psych, B.Ed, B.Prim Ed, teaches at universities across South Africa on a consultancy basis. She is an educational psychologist from Johannesburg, South Africa, and teaches SFBT to psychologists, social workers, counselors, and teachers. Dr Jacqui runs the Solution Focused Institute of South Africa, which is an organization that aims to teach and promote world-class training in SFBT.
Johnny S. Kim, Ph.D, LCSW
Dr. Kim, PhD, MSW, LICSW, is an associate professor at the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work. He is chair of the Solution Focused Brief Therapy Association Research Committee and serves on the editorial boards of Encyclopedia of Social Work Online, Journal of the Society for Social Work and Reserch, and Children & Schools. He has published over 50 articles in peer reviewed journals, book chapters, and books.
Elliot E. Connie, MA, LPC
Elliot Connie is a psychotherapist practicing in Keller, Texas. He founded and oversees the Solution Focused University, an online community that holds multiple training sessions on this approach, including an annual conference, workshops, and seminars. Mr. Connie is the co-editor of The Art of Solution Focused Therapy with Linda Metcalf as well as the author of The Solution Focused Marriage and Solution Building in Couples Therapy. He has also conducted numerous training sessions and has presented widely around the world.

Course Creator

David M. Lutkemeier
David Lutkemeier holds a BA degree in psychology, a master’s degree in developmental psychology, and a doctorate degree from the University of Cincinnati in Special Education and Psychology. He is certified as a psychologist by the Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners, as well as holding public school superintendent certification in Arizona and California. Dr. Lutkemeier has worked as an assistant professor at Arizona State University, a school psychologist, special education director, assistant superintendent, and superintendent in both Arizona and California. David, working as a consultant with a national curriculum management group (CMSi) has completed over two dozen comprehensive district-wide curriculum audits in 15 states over the past 20 years and has worked as a test developer for CE Learning Systems for the past ten years.
