Dr. Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic is a psychologist, author, and entrepreneur. He is a professor of business at Columbia University and a professor of business psychology at University College of London. His work involves psychological profiling, talent management, entrepreneurship, consumer preferences, data analytics, and leadership training. He is currently the Chief Talent Scientist at Manpower Group, co-founder of Deeper Signals and Metaprofiling. He is the author of 10 books and over 150 scientific papers on the psychology of talent, leadership, innovation, and AI.

Nora R. Balint, MS, NCC

Nora Balint, MS, NCC, received her degree in Professional Counseling from Georgia State University and her National Certification in Counseling in 2002. Her volunteer and paid work in the counseling area has included creating and running parenting support groups (for birth through elementary aged children), work with the elderly, life coaching, support with the LGBTQ community, substance abuse groups, individual counseling, and technology consulting. Nora is currently a Post-Master's Fellow at The Refuge Center for Counseling in Franklin, Tennessee and is pursuing licensure as an LPC-MHSP.

This course is appropriate for organizational and industrial psychologist and any behavioral health professionals working in that area. It is appropriate for intermediate levels of knowledge.

Course Objectives:

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  1. Identify a variety of macro-economic trends which contribute to the difficulty organizations might have in finding and retaining their most talented employees.
  2. Explain four distinct perspectives on talent, considering the interaction of personality, skill, achievement, aptitude, and coachability.
  3. Prepare a list of the established and empirically supported methodologies for assessing the level of talents individuals posses, and defend the use of each type of assessment.
  4. Discuss the psychological needs and drivers which motivate employees to be fully engaged at work, and predict which workplace environments might serve to decrease engagement.
  5. Differentiate between the ways that employees and leaders can and cannot nurture or develop their talents, and list some of the obstacles that might prevent job coaching to be fully effective.
  6. Describe the ways in which talents might also manifest as negative or counterproductive traits.
  7. Predict some of the ways that technology will change the way that we identify, nurture, and retain our employees, and explain the ways in which traditional methods of identifying talent are still valuable in the workplace.
