About the Course

This course discusses gender differences in gambling disorder recovery. The authors found some differences, however not for recovery capital. It includes: SUD, stressful life events, recovery capital, intrinsic spirituality, depression and anxiety, amount of debt, and types of debt.

Belle Gavriel-Fried, PhD 

Dr. Belle Gavriel Fried is a senior faculty member at Tel Aviv University. Her research interests include addictions to both substances and behaviors (especially gambling behaviors). She implements both qualitative and quantitative research methods in her work. She has conducted numerous studies exploring the unique characteristics of Israeli society as manifested in the gambling field. Her work has been published in multiple peer reviewed journals.

Tania Moretta 

Tania Moretta is a PhD student in the Department of General Psychology, University of Padova, Padova Italy. Her main research interests lie in the relationship between stress and motivational processes in behavioral addiction (e.g. Internet Addiction Disorder); the psychobiological mechanisms underlying inhibitory control, motivation, and emotional processing in problematic Internet users (i.e. social networking addiction). She has published multiple works in peer reviewed journals.

Marc N Potenza, PhD, MD

Dr. Potenza is a board-certified psychiatrist with sub-specialty training and certification in addiction psychiatry. Currently, he is a Professor of Psychiatry, Child Study and Neuroscience at the Yale University School of Medicine where he is Director of the Division on Addictions Research at Yale, the Center of Excellence in Gambling Research, the Yale Research Program on Impulsivity and Impulse Control Disorders, and the Women and Addictive Disorders Core of Women's Health Research at Yale. He is also a Senior Scientist at the Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling and is on the editorial boards of fifteen journals (including editor-in-chief of Current Addiction Reports) and has received multiple national and international awards for excellence in research and clinical care.

L.A. Rankin is a social worker with experience in many different settings with a variety of clients. She has worked with dementia and Alzheimers patients, dual diagnosis MH/MR, in a battered women’s shelter, and a rape crisis center. She also has 11 years of experience as a child protective social worker, where she earned certificates in domestic abuse/family violence and substance abuse.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  1. Acknowledge that there are differences in gambling disorder in men and women.
  2. Identify the differences between women and women pertaining to SUD, stressful life events, history of early childhood trauma, intrinsic spirituality, debt, depression, and anxiety.
  3. Summarize the most effect type of approach in both genders.
