The study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of sofosbuvir-based hepatitis C treatment regimens among Alaska Native and American Indian (AN/AI) people living in Alaska, and to determine if there are any differences in treatment experience and outcomes compared to other racial and ethnic groups. The study is conducted by the Liver Disease and Hepatitis program (LDHP) at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC), which has a registry and an established cohort of AN/AI individuals with HCV infection. The study is motivated by the high rates of HCV in Alaska and the need to address disparities in HCV treatment among AN/AI populations. The effectiveness of hepatitis C treatment and the potential impact of eliminating the disease are also discussed, highlighting the advancements in treatment with the introduction of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs).
This course is based on the reading-based online article, The Alaska Native/American Indian Experience of Hepatitis C Treatment With Sofosbuvir-based Direct-acting Antivirals created by Lisa Townshend-Bulson, ANP et al. in 2021.
