This article reviews a large survey of EMDR practitioners and clients across five continents regarding the implementation and acceptability of online EMDR therapy, providing information helpful in enhancing implementation. The research reveals the issues involved in transitioning from in-person EMDR to online delivery, analyzing both therapist and client perspectives, including shifts in attitudes over time to a high level of client comfort with online EMDR therapy. It also addresses challenges and barriers to online EMDR, such as digital exclusion, clinical severity considerations, and technological issues. The article provides numerous comments from EMDR-trained therapists divided into key domains.
This course is based on the reading-based online article, Clinician and Patient Experience of Internet-Mediated Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy created by Matthew Bursnall et al. in 2022.
