Psychosocial Interventions for Self-harm in Adults

About the Course

Self-harm is a significant social and healthcare issue, contributing to high levels of morbidity and frequently linked to suicide. It often recurs, posing a serious challenge for healthcare systems. This systematic review evaluates and compares the effectiveness of various psychosocial interventions for adults who engage in self-harm against other types of interventions. The study explores therapeutic outcomes, including reducing the repetition of self-harm behaviors and improving psychological well-being, through methods such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and other group-based emotion-regulation psychotherapies. By assessing a comprehensive range of psychosocial strategies, this review aims to identify the most effective treatments for reducing self-harm in adults, providing valuable insights for clinicians, researchers, and policymakers in mental health care.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Psychosocial Interventions for Self-harm in Adults created by Dr. Sebastian Olbrich et al in 2021.
