This workshop addresses the profound universal wound of separation from the earth through an integrated framework combining Robert Kegan’s adult development model, Ecopsychology, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a key component, serving as a tool which helps build the bridge from early stages of adult development, toward more advanced stages. In IFS terms, “Self” represents these mature stages, characterized by self-leadership and a deep sense of personal agency, while “parts” often reflect earlier stages marked by reactivity and disconnection. Through guided exercises, discussions, and practical applications, the workshop provides professionals with tools to facilitate both their own and their clients’ progression toward later developmental stages. These later stages are characterized by an increased capacity to hold complexity, and a deepened compassion and curiosity for self and others, alongside an acute awareness of interdependence. Such development is essential for healing the divisions between self, others, and the natural world, ultimately cultivating a holistic sense of community and connection.
This course is based on the recorded webinar, Bridging Divides: Coming Home to Belonging created by Ki Smith in 2024.
Ki (she/they) is an IFS-Trained Contemplative Psychotherapist, affiliated teacher with the Right Use of Power Institute, and a facilitator, mediator, and coach in the realm of compassionate communication, power-consciousness, and conflict transformation. In her private practice, Warrior Wisdom, Ki works with individuals and people in intimate relationships of all kinds who want to heal relationally by learning how to turn towards inner and outer conflict whenever possible with slowness, curiosity, kindness, and the intention to hold that multiple truths are possible and probable. She also offers a 12-week course which builds these skills and is rooted in the integration of The Right Use of Power™, Nonviolent Communication, and Internal Family Systems, entitled "Language for the Open-Hearted Warrior." Ki is passionate about co-creating a beloved community with others and understanding the integral role this plays in the transformational healing of intrapersonal, interpersonal, and systemic suffering. She believes that the heart of healing ourselves and our world is coming home to the truth: we each and all inherently belong–and that we truly need one another to remember this truth.
