Moral Thinking and Empathy in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Children and Adolescents With Conduct Problems

A Narrative Review

This course was updated 3 days ago. If you're about to take the exam, you may benefit from reviewing the exam questions listed below before starting on the actual exam.

About the Course

This narrative review examines the role of moral thinking and empathy within Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for children and adolescents with conduct problems. By integrating insights from developmental psychology and cognitive neuroscience, the authors aim to enhance CBT effectiveness by addressing morality and empathy as core components. The review discusses normative beliefs, empathy, and social problem-solving skills, presenting a model for incorporating these moral dimensions in CBT interventions. The authors propose that moral reasoning can strengthen empathy and improve behavioral outcomes among youth with aggressive and antisocial tendencies.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Moral Thinking and Empathy in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Children and Adolescents With Conduct Problems created by Dr. Walter Matthys et al in 2023.
